I never thought I would see the day that I would trade in my SLR for what is basically a digital camera. The thought of such a thing made me laugh but when Olympus created their PenĀ E-PL8, I started to have second thoughts.
It is a nightmare lugging my SLR around everywhere especially when doing travel or dinner reviews and after hearing that the E-PL8Ā was the cameraĀ that a lot ofĀ bloggers were using, I started to come around to the idea of getting one too.
Before I decided that theĀ Olympus PenĀ E-PL8 was the camera for me, I did some research on the brand’s website here which tells you all about the various features. To help me decide further I also researched bloggers whoĀ alreadyĀ had the camera and sawĀ the quality of the images that they had captured.
Finally after a few chats on twitter with some cool peepsĀ who hadĀ the E-PL8, I decidedĀ to take the plunge and buy the camera!
I actually got a pretty good deal on theĀ vintage tan/brownĀ version from John LewisĀ when it first came out but you can also get the black version here or the silver oneĀ here. Ā All 3 colours are beautiful andĀ worth a spend.
So is theĀ Olympus PenĀ E-PL8 any good?
Well to be honest, it’s better then I ever imagined. Quick, easy and simple to use, it weighs practically nothing so carrying it around in my bag was no bother and I really love the vintage look it has.
It has tons of great functions too including video, a moveable screen so selfies are now the best EVER, a touch screen, editing features and even a wifi service that includes a remote control function via their app and you can even download images to your phone and upload them to your blog or instagram.
As well as looking the part, you also get some great accessories too like camera bags, straps andĀ pouches to jazz up your pen and there are also an array of lenses including the 45mm(great for depth shots and outfit posts) and the Pancake lens which you normally get whenĀ you buy the camera.
Over all, even though it is over Ā£500, it is well worth the price. I have use this camera tons since I have bought it and Gary who does all my outfit pictures has said that he finds it so easy to use and more user friendly then a SLR.
Have you got theĀ Olympus Pen E-PL8? Be great to know what you thought!
