Whether you’re going on a day trip or a longer holiday, packing right can take a lot of the hassle out of the equation. But that’s when you are going away; what about when it comes to moving house? There’s a lot more to pack and therefore, you’ve got to ensure that everything is in some discernible order, but you also need to make life easier for yourself.
So what do you need to do?
It’s important to remember that when you are getting everything together, such as the removals companies and the relevant admin, you’ve got to pack in advance where possible. You know about a move weeks or potentially months in advance. You can start by packing the items you won’t miss and the things that are off-season. So in the summer, you’ll be packing away all your winter items, and when it’s time to finally get going, most of the items are ready to go, meaning you’ve got less stress.
The little things are important, not in terms of packing away, but the everyday essentials need to stay with you. It’s not just about a change your clothes or toothbrush, but you’ve also got to make sure that the things for your children or pets are there. Toys for the kids are going to make the moving day far easier and less stressful. Have a spare bag or a suitcase with all of the essentials, as well as the paperwork and any medication. Because if the worst-case scenario occurs and the moving van disappears, you’ve got all the essentials with you to keep you going for at least one or two nights.
The right size boxes are vital. For example, when you’re packing books, you need to make sure they are in more sturdy boxes. When you’re packing books, you need to make sure that they or any other heavy items are in smaller boxes, making them easier to carry and less likely to get damaged. However, lighter items like pillows and linen can be packed in bigger boxes. Large boxes may seem to make life easier in packing, but they can be incredibly frustrating and bulky come moving day!
To make life easier when you are moving into a new place, you’ve got to ensure that you are packing according to each room. Rather than mixing and matching items from different rooms, it’s going to make life easier when you unpack to have everything ready to go in one place.
One of the biggest issues is making sure that you have everything wrapped up properly. This is why important items such as bubble wrap will make a big difference, especially when you are packing up your kitchen items. Use plenty of bunched-up paper and ensure that the dishes go on their sides, not flat.
Finally, the most important thing for you to do to make life easier is to declutter everywhere. Your wardrobe can be particularly useful here. Get rid of the things you don’t need and you will make life a lot easier come moving day.
