Celia Birtwell is a legend among the old school fashionista’s and she has recently launched her S/S 2013 collection collaboration with Uniqlo and it looks breath-taking. With Colettes, P J trousers, scarves, Tee’s and gorgeous print dresses, this collection is very Uniqlo yet has Celia’s unusual touch and taste. I was lucky enough to grab a few minutes and interview Celia about this great collection and how the whole project got started.
Me: So Celia, how did this Collaboration with Uniqlo come about?
Celia: It was really through my agent, and it’s the first thing I have done since working with Topshop and I really enjoyed it.
Me: I was actually working at Topshop when your collection dropped so it’s great to see your signature continue with Uniqlo.
Celia: Well I felt that I was so free and they liked what I did and had the same sense of humour and it has been the same experience with Uniqlo and they were so calm and a pressure to work with.
Me: I guess they have their own unique style also and they love to experiment which probably why you wanted to work with them?
Celia: Well their product is so reasonable priced and it’s been a real joy specially working across Japan and it’s been a great project.
Me: So tell me about the inspiration behind some of the prints you have done?
Celia: It’s been many years since we started and I showed them my portfolio including new pieces I have worked on and they liked it. They then came back with what they liked and we went from there.
Me: Was that the same with the cuts as well?
Celia: No, the cuts are mainly theirs but it all came together by accident really and I like that.
Me: So do you think you are going to do anymore collections with the brand?
Celia: You never know….

I popped into Uniqlo and the Celia Birtwell collection is really strong. I like the trousers especially.
Yeah I love those of the pieces! Tried on the PJ trousers, fab for summer! x
